Design Overview
The Sea-Doo FishPro Trophy 170 comes with an upgraded design in 2022. The first FishPro model was the first PWC to come with dedicated features for the professional and recreational angler. You get a stable hull that makes casting from the boat easy without ending up in the drink.
You also get a touchscreen GPS/fishfinder system, a 13.5-gallon cooler with several clip-on rod holders, a topside bait cutting board, and a pocket for tools and tackle. While the FishPro is already an outstanding fishing PWC and a leader in its class, the Trophy model steps things up another notch.
The FishPro Trophy model comes with even more fishability features. The aft comes with a wide, sturdy casting platform. The Trophy allows stand-up casting of the rear of the boat, something that’s not available on any other fishing PWC.
The Trophy carries over all the best benefits of the FishPro. You get the gunwale footrests, the Garmin GPS/fishfinder system, and the 13.5-gallon cooler/Livewell mounted with quick-release clips. There are clip-in rod holders around the perimeter and a comfortable EVA foam pad on the lid. You also get plenty of storage pockets available for tools and tackle.
Engines
The FishPro Trophy runs on the same platform as the Spark series and the original FishPro. You have the 170-Hp Rotax 1630 ACE engine for fast performance, producing a top speed of 55-mph at 7,400-rpm. There’s no supercharger on this mode, with the naturally aspirated engine focusing on economy rather than the sports performance of the other models in the Rotax Series.
However, don’t let that confuse you about the performance you get with the 170 motors in the Trophy. The 60-Hp motor is still a handful of power when you flip the grip and open the throttle. You’ll feel the instant acceleration and the power of the rotary engine thrusting you forward, even when loaded with all your gear.
Sea-Doo also offers the upgrade to the 90-Hp version of the Rotax Series, but we feel the 60-Hp model has everything you need to enjoy the trip to the fishing spot at the reef or in the flats. Speaking of the flats, the shallow draft and jet-ski-like engine of the FishPro means you can reach deep into the shallows without the worry of running aground.
The Rotax engine is a real fuel sipper; that’s something everyone’s paying attention to in 2022. With gas prices reaching all-time highs and inflation promising more pain at the pump, this fishing boat offers more economy than the best outboard motors in the same power and price category. The FishPro Trophy sips fuel at an astonishing 1.94 gallons p/hour and the 90-Hp version at 2.4 gallons p/hour.
The naturally-aspirated 899cc motor in the Trophy features a Closed-Loop Cooling System (CLCS) and an engine reverse system. You also have the Convenience Plus Package with iBR® (Intelligent Brake & Reverse) as standard equipment with the Trophy.

Hull
The 2022 Sea-Doo FishPro Trophy 170 features design and construction with the advanced Polytec hull from Sea-Doo’s R&D department. The 2014 Spark saw the introduction of this material to the Sea-Doo PWC range. Now it’s available with the FishPro Trophy.
You get exceptional durability compared to traditional fiberglass hulls. There’s improved scratch resistance and no chance of damage or cracking when beaching the Trophy. A video online somewhere on YouTube shows the techs who designed it, beating it with baseball bats to prove the hulls’ strength and resilience.
The lightweight hull material enhances the FishPro’s handling while improving its plane speed and fuel efficiency. One of the benefits of buying the Trophy over a bass boat or a skiff is the superb handling. You get the handling of the PWC, with handlebar controls and throttle.
The jet ski motor paired with the PWC hull offers excellent handling and turning on a dime. The hull reduces friction and rag on the surface, allowing you to reach fast planing times. You get the same PWC performance as luxury cruiser models and way more power on tap than a 60-Hp or 90-Hp outboard.
The weight reduction in the PolyTec over fiberglass makes it easy to tow with mid-size vehicles. When it’s time to head for shore, you can beach the FishPro without the worry of damaging the hull. This action was known to damage hulls before the introduction of PolyTec hull technology.
The front of the hull also comes with an I-hook. Pull the boat onto the trailer when you’re at the dock and using the launch. The lightweight hull and design of the Trophy make it a breeze to trailer it yourself.
Interior, Seating, and Deck
Reviews of the original FishPro showed that enthusiasts were looking for a live well in an updated model. So, Sea-Doo made that happen. It does away with the rear casting platform on the original FishPro, replacing it with a live well for your fish or bait. The redesign takes the existing cooler, updating it into a live well that suits your fishing purposes out on the water. The live well features an automated pumping solution that you can set for continuous use or 30-second cycles, all with a touch of a button.
Connect the pump and hose system to the live well, and it draws water in to keep the system running. As a bonus, you use the same pump and hose to wash down the Livewell and boat during the day and after you finish with your fishing trip and need to trailer the boat.
Possibly the most fish-advantageous upgrade to the boat besides the live well has to come with the new Garmin Fishfinder/GPS included with the Trophy. You get a 7″ touchscreen with full menu controls for plotting your journey, your waypoints, and your favorite fishing spots. The 7″ screen feels huge, and it’s visible even in direct sunlight.
You get a token included with your purchase of the Trophy that allows you to download all your regional and local maps to your Garmin device. You can purchase dual 8″ screens to support the Garmin, giving your boat a fully digital interface with your devices.
The Trophy interfaces with a smartphone app, giving you total control over every aspect of the boat, including your Garmin and your music center. The Trophy comes with Bluetooth 5.0 audio compatibility featuring a wireless connection to your devices.
To power the additional screens, the Live well, and the speakers, Sea-Doo addressed the increased power needs of the Trophy by adding a dual-battery setup, along with a 650-Watt generator allowing for rapid recharging of the batteries and full support for the demands of the electrical system.
However, our favorite redesign feature with the Trophy is the removable aft seating with this model. Remove the rear saddle and fit the pedestal post to the floor slot on the deck. Fit the rear seatback to the pedestal, and you have a pedestal seat suitable for swing casting!
You’ll find the backrest for the seat in the front compartment of the boat, and it floats, in case you’re wondering what happens if you drop it in the water. Everything on the boat, from the seats to the live well, floats. The seat feels secure, and it’s not just a gimmick.
You get real stability on the lake, even when you’re out on the ocean. The wider hull gives you a comfortable and stable casting position. The low center of gravity inspires confidence, allowing for swing casting in the seat with no hesitation in your movement. Kick back and put your feet up on the Livewell for a relaxing fishing experience.
Setup in your favorite fishing spot, and don’t worry about the current drifting you around. Next to your left foot, you’ll find the convenient grapnel anchor. Just flip up the chassis to grab the anchor and deploy it with one hand. The anchor rope fits into a mesh bag on the side for easy deployment and stowage.
Some of the returning features of the FishPro Trophy include a wide choice of rod holders and the multi-speed trolling mode for a slow, easy, automated fishing experience. You get an angled gunwale footrest for comfort when using the casting chair and the same throttle controls and ergonomic grips to reduce hand fatigue.
You also get the debris-free system included. It flushes the weeds and debris clogging up the jet propulsion system when activating the system. It toggles the motor back and forth until the sensor detects the props are free to spin. So, you can get the Trophy into the shallowest waters without worrying about everything clogging up the jets.
