This is remarkable - this hasn't happened in decades. I'm staying up to date, hoping everyone in this region stays safe: 🌧️💨🌴For the first time in 84 years, a tropical storm swept through Southern California. Trees toppled onto homes, swollen rivers overflowed, and roads turned into rivers. The immediate aftermath? States from the Southwest to as far north as Oregon and Idaho on high alert for flooding.📸 [Image of flooded Palm Desert streets, vehicles navigating waterlogged roads] (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill)While the National Hurricane Center has downgraded Hilary to post-tropical status, its effects continue to be felt – especially with record-breaking rainfall and flooding warnings persisting. Beyond the tropical storm, California grappled with wildfires and an earthquake in a single day. Amid the chaos, stories of close calls emerged. Terry Flanigan, for instance, recounts the harrowing tale of a colossal Eucalyptus tree that narrowly missed her young neighbor.📸 [Image of the Eucalyptus tree aftermath, crews removing branches]But here's the silver lining: L.A. faced the storm's full fury and emerged with minimal impacts. A nod to both its resilience and preparedness. "Los Angeles was tested but we came through it, and we came through it with minimal impacts considering what we endured,” remarks City Council President Paul Krekorian. As we stand with our fellow Californians, let's also keep an eye on the weather's evolving narrative across the continent. Tropical disturbances loom in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.📸 [Image of rescue efforts, people coming together in the face of adversity]Let Hilary serve as a testament to our tenacity, resilience, and collective strength. Here's to Californians, who, despite the trials, come together in unity and support.#TropicalStormHilary #CaliforniaResilience #WeatherWatch[Link to full AP article]If you want to stay up-to-date with us, follow our Page.

To: Friends in PRFrom: Journalists covering upcoming hurricaneRe: CoverageThose of us in the visual mediums will spend cumulative hours on TV helping local officials keep people informed. Yes some may be more or less dramatic than you care for, but that's a different thread. If we run out of interesting things to say then people will stop watching. If we don't know what's going on we can't do a good job. This is where you come in. Send us info. You don't have to be terribly creative about it. Any brand or organization that is taking steps to protect its employees is potentially news worth reporting. Consumer facing brands that are making logistical preparations can definitely be of interest. Anything with a pet in it moves to the front of the line. Please empower your store managers at the edge. Either let us shoot video or not, but please don't leave us hanging waiting on permission. Tag your local journalists on social media. Don't call them this week if you are in the cone. Unless they prefer you call. Everybody is different. Don't call me. Above all be careful if you are anywhere near the cone. Listen to your local meteorologists. Load up on water.

Early on in my PR career, I was taught that we're always behind the curtain and in the background and rarely part of the story (and if we're good, never part of the story). I have my first boss to thank for that, as well as learning a lot about managing and account service (thanks Anthony Sanzio and 🎧 Diana Wong).I've also been lucky to get media trained and learn from some of the best in my career. Yes, James Korenchen, I listened intensely when we were watching a press conference and retained everything you said (and I tried to remember to stand up straight in this interview). I still repeat what I learned from you in the NY office and try to follow what you taught me all those years ago when I was just a pup.And recently, it's been many sessions with Mark Bernheimer as he's trained people at work and I've sat in on the sessions. Now, here there were really no messaging points I was going to get across (and with four news stations coming out, I got a lot of practice), but I tried to highlight the great work of LAFD and the tree removal team that cleared the street within hours. And then to make it fun, with the FOX reporter, I noted I bought a lottery ticket since nothing bad happened to me. I hate watching myself on TV, so no idea how it went but thought it was a fun bit of turning the tables where I was interviewed by media (and they were all great and said to come back with stories for work).#communications #mediatraining #television #interview #crisiscommunications
